The 'ABeam Group Human Rights Policy' (see link below) has been approved by the highest decision-making body, and activities are promoted by the Sustainability Committee, chaired by the Representative Director. Based on this policy, we are committed to advancing our efforts to respect human rights with integrity.
1. Our Approach to Respecting Human Rights (Basic Policy)
The ABeam Group upholds international standards including the United Nations 'International Bill of Human Rights' and the 'UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs)', and respects the human rights of all people throughout our value chain. In particular, as a transformation partner utilizing advanced technology and data, we strive to ensure the appropriate use of new technologies and protect privacy, while working to prevent and mitigate adverse impacts on society.
2. Governance
Initiatives based on this policy are promoted by the 'Sustainability Committee,' chaired by the Representative Director. The Executive Officer in charge of Sustainability reports to the Committee, and continuous improvement is pursued under appropriate oversight by the Board of Directors.
3. Human Rights Due Diligence and Salient Human Rights Issues
We identify and assess adverse impacts on human rights in our business operations and value chain, and strive to prevent and mitigate them through appropriate measures. Based on our business characteristics, we focus on the following four points as 'Salient Human Rights Issues’:
As part of measures to prevent and mitigate adverse impacts on these issues, our group continuously conducts human rights and compliance training for employees.
4. Reporting channels and Remedy
When it becomes clear that we have caused or been involved in adverse impacts on human rights, we will work to correct and remedy the situation through appropriate procedures. Utilizing the insights and experience gained from our consulting business, ABeam provides NPOs and NGOs with pro bono support to resolve issues in regional communities, contributing to a better society.
Co-creation programs
Many organizations are addressing social issues, including NPOs, NGOs, and private companies. NPOs and NGOs struggle with resource shortages. By providing them with funding, expert personnel, and other resources, ABeam can help them to accelerate finding solutions to social issues.
ABeam Consulting is engaged in pro bono activities to “utilize the consulting skills developed in our core business to address social issues.” Our goal is to find solutions to social issues through “co-creation.”
Other pro bono work supporting NPOs and NGOs
ABeam Consulting is engaged in pro bono work and fundraising. We provide children from developing countries with educational opportunities, support regional welfare systems that help people eat well and preserve their ways of life, and support water, hygiene and environmental protection through local NPOs and NGOs across all of our domestic and international locations.
Sponsored lectures
Companies from different sectors and industries are expected to collaborate and address social issues. Education institutions have also seen a growing need to develop innovative personnel.
ABeam Consulting provides universities and graduate schools sponsored courses that incorporate ABeam-exclusive frameworks and methodologies. We will continue to develop outstanding personnel through partnerships between industry and academia at educational institutions.
ABeam contributes to the sustainable development of regional societies through community exchanges.
Revitalizing efforts to pass on the traditions and customs of regional societies
The “SABANI Sailing Race” across the Kerama Islands, in which contestants operate traditional Okinawan sabani fishing boats. Preserving and passing on Okinawan traditional culture resonated with us (and had something in common with our company name*), so we have been an ongoing supporter of this event since the 8th race in 2008. We use it as an opportunity to broaden engagement with participants and people across the region.
*ABeam Consulting’s name comes from the word “abeam,” a yachting term meaning “to advance using the power of a lateral wind.”
Since 2016, ABeam Consulting has sponsored the professional soccer team Montedio Yamagata.
We are helping to revitalize the Yamagata region by engaging with the community and energizing the locals.
