Initiatives for Re-Style

Daily Initiatives to Promote Re-Style

As part of our efforts to promote Re-Style, at ABeam Consulting, we encourage each and every employee to take action, such as recycling and reducing consumption, to raise awareness of social issues.

1. Installation of Recycling Stations

At ABeam Consulting, recycling stations are installed on each floor of our offices to promote thorough waste separation and waste reduction.

As an effort we can make on a daily basis, we are thoroughly separating the waste generated in our offices. At the same time, we are working to raise environmental awareness by calling for the reduction of waste emissions.

2. Distribution of Eco-Bags made from recycled cotton

ABeam Consulting encourages new graduate hires and mid-career hires to reduce plastic consumption by distributing original Eco-Bags to them.

On July 1, 2020, stores in Japan began charging for plastic shopping bags. This change is positioned as a part of measures for “thoroughly reducing” the use of plastics which is one of the priority strategies of the “Resource Circulation Strategy for Plastics” established by nine ministries and government agencies in May 2019, as well as encouraging consumers to reform their lifestyles.*1 ABeam Consulting will continue to work to reduce the consumption of plastic resources through activities such as the distribution of Eco-Bags.

The Eco-Bags distributed by ABeam Consulting are made with recycled cotton, which reuses the cloth scraps typically discarded in the production process of sewn products, and take into account the environmental impact of the manufacturing process.

3. Participation in the ASKUL Resource Recycling Platform (for clear document folders)

At ABeam Consulting, we are working to recycle damaged and clear plastic folders through ASKUL Corporation’s resource recycling platform (recycling into recycled pellets).

Clear plastic folders are one of the plastic products commonly used at ABeam.
Thus far, we have made efforts to reduce waste, such as reusing clean clear plastic folders that are no longer needed. However, damaged or folders had low utility value and had to be disposed of. In April 2022, focusing on the fact that it is often difficult for such offices to collect and recycle plastic products which are then treated as industrial waste, ASKUL Corporation established the ASKUL Resource Recycling Platform (for clear document folders) to collect, recycle, and commercialize clear plastic folders, which are made of a single material and have the same shape.

In the demonstration project conducted between January 2021 and February 2022, we collected and provided 12 boxes of clear plastic folders. We plan to continue to recycle damaged or dirtied clear plastic folders through the platform.

4. Donation of Disaster Supplies

At ABeam Consulting, we make donations to food bank groups when replacing our disaster supplies.

In recent years, food loss has been raised as a major issue.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, 5.7 million tons of food is disposed of in Japan each year (estimate for fiscal year2019), which is equivalent to about 45 kg of food thrown away for each Japanese person per year.*2

We keep instant food products and other items in our office storage areas for long periods in preparation for disasters such as major earthquakes. It is necessary to replace such foods once the expiration date draws near, but from the perspective of food loss it would be a waste to throw away this food which can still be enjoyed.

In fiscal year 2021, we donated these foodstuffs through Food Bank Hachioji EGAO, a food bank NPO. The donated food went to 25 households supported by the five Food Pantries in Hachioji City and to 50 households receiving other support.

We will continue to donate disaster supplies and contribute to reducing food loss.
