Why ABeam ?

M.N

My college major was in a STEM field, so I had been studying IT since I was a student. In my career search, I was hoping to find work at a consulting firm, since this is a field in which one can acquire high-level thinking skills in addition to the IT skills in which I am able to apply my strengths.Consulting firms project a strong image of individuality, in which boosting one's own value is paramount. The impression is one of fierce individual competition, in which knowledge will be stolen if you share it with others.

As my selection process continued, however, I heard about ABeam as a company with a culture stressing the sharing and application of knowledge and know-how, where heightening individual skills is fundamental, and members are honored for contributing to a knowledge base that is shared companywide. That emphasis on accomplishing a project as a team was what appealed to me, and that's why I joined.
Since joining the firm, I have been involved in BPR, systems implementation and renewal projects to support the business transformation the client is aiming for, mainly in the general commercial trading industry.

Experiences in ABeam ~ Impressive Project~

The project that has left the biggest impression on me has been one in which we had to define the To-Be state for business processes at a client in the general commercial trading industry. The client was facing a pressing need to transform their business model in the context of advancing digitalization. The issue for them was how they should concretely specify their vague notions of the business processes that would support their corporate transformation in that context. The goals they were aiming for were clear-cut, and the project with which to solve the issues on the way to achieving those goals required a different approach. We moved forward with discussions as PMO team members, working together on a concrete definition of what the client was aiming to make of itself. The role demanded of us was thus one of compiling the client's aspirations into a target To-Be state.

However, simply scattering ideas around in discussions doesn't bring out answers. Considering the crucial importance of teasing out our deliberative tasks according to a set process, we took on the challenge of thorough preparation for each session, answering questions such as what themes to discuss and when, what preparations were required to move those discussions forward, what methods should be employed to advance those discussions, and how those advancing discussions should be brought to meaningful conclusions. We also took steps to leave participating members with a common understanding after the discussions and to clarify the efforts they should undertake in the future. This involved a fact-based compilation of materials, using diagrams and text to bring visibility to the content, and other devices for expressing these ideas among the client and project members. By bringing visibility to the points of discussion, including those that tended to provoke verbal dogfights, we clarified what the problem was, and what needed to be achieved. This advanced deeper discussions, which enabled us eventually to arrive at the targeted To-Be state. Enveloping the client in a project as one team so as to make steady progress is ABeam's strength, and we received high marks from the client for this. Through this work, I myself also felt a satisfying sense of growth through effort.

Future ~Growth Story~

M.N

Moving forward, I hope to accumulate more team management experience as a PMO, forming teams that earn the trust of clients by leading projects steadily to success. As a PMO, I think there are two roles that it is crucial to fulfill: ① correctly understanding and bringing visibility to project progress information, and ② accurately reporting information to senior levels of client management. In addition, I also think it is critical to fulfill the role of ③providing support to each team that enables them to operate under their own power.

Even if, I work to create an environment that enables people to think, even when facing complex issues, that "If I consult with this person, things will move toward a solution." When I can do that, I think the necessary information will come together.
In order to do that, I actively communicate with the client in the place where they are, including through meetings, taking care to keep constantly aware of how I can act to maximize the meaningfulness of my being there. By maintaining that attitude and behavior, I hope to become a consultant that earns the client's trust, a Real Partner who leads projects to success.
